Fire Rating Door Requirements | Hong Kong
Fire safety is important when thinking about the design of an office and a building. Besides safety its important to comply with fire safety requirements or risk being guilty of an offence and liable to a conviction fine of $50,000 and a further fine of $5,000 for each day of non compliance.
In terms of compliance, you will have 1 year of compliance period for common areas and 6 months of compliance period for individual premises to arrange the safety work to be completed.

Parts of a building are designed to resist fire and block fire from spreading for a certain amount of time.
This protects people and their assets from the effect of fires and gives people time to escape the dangers of fire.
As part of fundamental building design, A building should provide a suitable escape route for occupants to exit the premises in the event of a fire and other emergencies.
Fire Rated Door Requirements
- Minimum 750mm width for capacity of room or storey ≤ 30
- Minimum 850mm width for capacity of room or storey > 30 but ≤ 200
- In case of a double leaf door, no leaf should be less than 600 mm in width
- The design details of different brands of hardwood or glass fire rated door may vary but it should be constructed in accordance with all requirements, including dimensions, ironmongery works and intumescent strip, as stipulated in the test report(s) before it is considered as acceptable
